Nomad Kuchi Hoop Earrings
These were inspired by the earrings the wandering Kuchi tribe gypsies wear in Afghanistan, with a modified contemporary Western style that is fashionable from New York to Paris and beyond.
The pair is made of a silver or brass crescent moon style, thickly plated in gold, with cabochon set local lapis lazuli and black tourmaline. Small discs hang from rings at the below to add a bit of sparkle to the wearer's ears. The thinner ear wires enable the earrings to easily fit the Western earring holes and give a fabulous story to share with all who share compliments.
Earring is 3cm wide by 5cm tall from top to bottom.
They have been handmade by talented artisans in Afghanistan under a partnership with Turquoise Mountain, an NGO founded by the Prince of Wales in 2006 to create employment and instill cultural pride in conflict zones.
